    12ga Handicap loads?

WTF is a handicap load? I went and bought 12 boxes of Winchester AA heavy target 12ga shells this morning and I guess I wasnt paying attention as 6 of the boxes are AA handicap heavy target and instead of red they are grey. do they serve some sort of special purpose? do they pack more, less or the same punch as regular AA heavy targets? according to my receipt they where a bit more than the regular heavy targets by about .40 box. hopefully they cycle like the regular heavy targets out of my shotgun.

They are faster, for being "handicapped" at the 27 yard line, instead of the 20 yard line in american trap shooting. The marketing depeartment at Winchester would like you to believe that the faster loads allow you the same lead you had at the 20 yard line.

"Patterns" come from the type of barrel and choke you use.

Handicap Sporting Clay Target Loads are designed for longer range handicap competition shooting or back fence traps, and they work well on fast flying doves too. 25 per box.

Have you ever met a slow-flying dove? There is no faster way to kill a case of ammo than shooting at doves, unless it's shooting sporting clays with a 25mph crosswind (I did that Sunday, my ammo wasn't "fast" enough).

    Thanks fellas.
I've been shooting sporting clays for quit a few years and have never used them{That I know of} I've heard them mentioned before but figured instead of using a google search I'd start a thread about it.

The ones I've loaded up with lead. I never shoot at them any more.

Alot of places down here require the use of steel shot for shooting doves...as expensive as steel shot is I'll take 2 boxes with me..if I cant get a limit with that I go home. though today I seen winchester makes a cheap steel load...was about $7 a box...may have to give those a try.
I hunted a sunflower field one year on a draw hunt and realized at the last min that I had to have steel shot..the only steel I could find at the local store was 3" dryloks in #4 shot...that was an interesting and expensive dove shoot.
